Doug McKay appointed Executive Chairman of Independent LiquorIndependent Liquor is pleased to announce the appointment of Doug McKay as Executive Chairman of the business effective 1 May 2007. Private equity firms, CCMP and Pacific Equity Partners (PEP) announced the purchase of Independent Liquor in December and will complete the deal at the end of January. Jim Tsao, Managing Director of CCMP Asia said: We are excited that Doug agreed to lead Independent Liquor for us. I have worked with Doug before and can vouch for his experience; he is a strong leader with a track record to be proud of. We are confident that Doug will be able to take Independent Liquor's business to a new level. PEP Managing Director Simon Pillar said: "We have had a long association with Doug from his days at Goodman Fielder and most recently in his capacity as an advisor to our food business in New Zealand. He is an outstanding FMCG executive and we are delighted to be furthering our association with him in this way. He will bring leadership and commercial vision to the role at Independent. Mr McKay has been Chief Executive of Sealord Group since October 2002. Before that he was Chief Operating Officer and Board Director of Sydney-based Goodman Fielder. His career has also included senior positions internationally with Procter and Gamble, Lion Breweries and Carter Holt Harvey. In his years at the helm of Sealord the New Zealand seafood industry has faced tough operating and export conditions due to factors such as rising fuel and Government-imposed business costs and the high New Zealand dollar. Despite this, sales by Sealord and its associate companies achieved record highs in the year ended 30 June 2006 and Sealord's own sales exceeded $600 million for the first time. Sealord now has 11 business operations world-wide and sells in some 50 countries.
